In the middle of December, TENEX and TENEX-Japan carried out a technical tour for Japanese experts to the enterprises of ROSATOM – FSUE RosRAO (Moscow), and V.G. Khlopin Radium Institute (St. Petersburg). Experts from A.I. Leypunskiy Institute of Physics and Power Engineering and JSC Rosenergoatom also took part in the session of the presentation on decommissioning and decontamination.

The tour was organized, on the occasion of the Year of Russia in Japan and the Year of Japan in Russia in 2018-2019, by the August session of the Japan-Russia Working Group for Nuclear Energy created under the auspices of the Japan-Russia Energy Initiative Council. The delegation was comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation, the company-operator of Fukushima Daiichi NPP – Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc., and Mitsubishi Research Institute.

During the technical tour, the Japanese delegation had a briefing on Russian technological solutions in the field of RAW management, including implementation of robots and the neutron detector being constructed on order of the Japanese side, as well as experiences in decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities, while bearing in mind the Fukushima Daiichi NPP accident recovery works.
